Aaron Gillespie | Of The Almost
o one has had more of a roller-coaster few months than The Almost’s Aaron Gillespie. Departing from behind the kit from his long time home with the world conquering Underoath, Gillespie has chosen to follow a path he feels has been laid out for him since the beginning. Gillespie has just released a b-sides EP from his now main project The Almost and is planning on giving us a strictly worship album this March. Speaking with the multi-talented renaissance man recently, we at Hopecore.com Magazine attempted to ask the tough questions but were gracefully greeted by a very calm, very happy Gillespie who seemed to be worrying about nothing more than enjoying his new found creative and individual freedom. Check out the new tracks left on the cutting room floor from the Monster Monster sessions, out now.
When it came time to choose the tracks for the original release, why didn’t these make the first cut?
Aaron Gillespie: We just picked what we felt were the best songs. They were the songs that kind of complimented the record in terms of content and lyrics and style. I think these EP songs kind of had a life of their own, you know?
What do you love about these songs?
AG: I really liked everything that was part of the session, we just weren’t able to put them all on. I just felt like the session was really all one session but some songs had their own identity.
What has life been like for you since leaving UO?
AG: I’ve really been on this road that I haven’t been on since high school and that’s a road of really just finding out who God is in my life and what’s next for me. Obviously it was a very spiritually based decision and its just trying to find what God has next for my family and for me. It’s been awesome.
So I have to ask, have you heard their new record? ![]()
