ringing faith to the table through music is arguably one of the most powerful ways to connect with a crowd of people. To stand in front of your peers and humbly let them know what has saved your life, and using your God given talent to spread that loving message is exactly the purpose of Ace Augustine. The lyrics on The Absolute are a testament to the way these guys live. Ace Augustine, out of Lancaster, PA give an excellent example of community, and God’s unconditional love, through the talent they have received. I look forward to seeing where these cats go in the future. Strike First Records has given them a good start. Let’s see where they go from here!
Can you enlighten me as to where the name “Ace Augustine” comes from? Does it referring to something/someone specific?
Tyler Chadwick: Well Doug and I were trying to come up with a name and really liked Augustine but wanted something in front of it. We really liked “ace” and later realized that it represented the band’s beliefs. A.C.E. as in After Common Era, or after the death of Christ and St. Augustine whose teachings we really admired.
What were your biggest influences collectively as a band?
TC: I would say our faith and life experiences.
I’m always interested to see if musicians actually listen to the same style of music they perform. What’s in your CD player at home, regularly?
“It’s really upsetting to us because our message is that we don’t judge you, no matter who you are, where you came from, or what you’ve done in life. Jesus loves you all the same. He never hung out with the rich, he hung around the poor and the prostitutes and the outcasts. We’re here to be with people who are struggling in life at this point.”TC: We definitely listen to our genre. I’m really into Underoath’s new CD and For Today’s new CD as well. I also listen to a ton of other genres. One of my favorite bands right now is the Glorious Unseen. I always listen to Taylor Swift. I love her voice and her song writing regardless of what anyone says haha!
Where would you say the majority of your support comes from? What I mean is, do you notice a difference with live performance attendance over perhaps ‘iTunes’ or ‘Facebook’ plays?
TC: The online industry has helped our band out in so many ways but live shows are where we connect with our fans the most.
How did Ace Augustine form? Were you friends before bandmates? Or did you come together out of necessity for the group?
TC: A few of us were friends before from playing lacrosse together. Our two newest members were members of local bands we played with.
Do you feel pressure to live up to a certain standard as musicians influencing people as far as faith goes? How do you feel that could differ from being a secular band?
TC: It’s really hard sometimes being in a Christian band because you’re judged a lot by people in the scene and other Christians. It’s really upsetting to us because our message is that we don’t judge you, no matter who you are, where you came from, or what you’ve done in life. Jesus loves you all the same. He never hung out with the rich, he hung around the poor and the prostitutes and the outcasts. We’re here to be with people who are struggling in life at this point.
What is your preference- Large venue –vs- smaller, more intimate shows? If you have any preference at all..
TC: Love small intimate shows but I love playing in larger venues. I know the guys are the same way. We will play wherever we can!!
Talk to us about The Absolute. What do you hope to accomplish with this record?
TC: To just get our name out there and get our message out there so we can hopefully be able to play across the country.
Great! Best of luck to you guys! Thank you for taking a quick minute to chat with us! Check out Ace Augustine at www.myspace.com/aceaugustine ![]()
