Memphis May Fire | The Hollow
(Rise Records) - Release Date April 26th, 2011
When I first listened to Memphis May Fire’s The Hollow I wasn’t expecting to be blown away, considering I never really liked their earlier albums. Boy was I wrong.
The CD starts with an ambient disarray of drum tracks and guitar swells. And when the vocals come in its like a wave that punches you in the face! The drums are so solid they ask you to sink your teeth into them. Although the guitar work is very strong, its the vocals that make the CD. The layering of the low and high screams are perfect and are not over done. The singing is what brought me in immediately and although I didn’t know the lyrics I couldn’t help but sing along. In my opinion, the strongest songs on the album are “The Sinner,” “The Victim” and “The Haunted”. My only criticism on the album is that it is arguably over produced and doesn’t bring a lot to the imagination. I give this album 4 out of 5 stars (if that were our “thing”). It makes me believe these hardcore underdogs will soon join the ranks with heavy hitters such as A Day To Remember and The Devil Wears Prada. – Jason Brown
