Sainthood Reps| A Right Formula
This new Tooth and Nail band calls Long Island home. And though hailing from a scene that birthed acts like Brand New and Taking Back Sunday, Sainthood Reps have a taste for the relevant side of things. Although, this just maybe a product of that exact upbringing. Whatever the formula was, Sainthood’s end product is exactly what their Seattle label home needs to be grabbing up right now. We are excited to bring you a first look into this band, and even more excited about their future among us.
Hey, thank you for doing this interview with us! Talk to me first off about what’s behind your name?
Bradley Cordaro: There could be numerous things behind it, that’s for the listener’s interpretation.
Fair. Your first single is titled “Monoculture”. Talk to us about the meaning within this track. I love that this is a topic you don’t choose to just poke at but you sort of paint the walls with.
BC: Monoculture describes the current state of things as we see it. The lyrics chronicle sort of robotic society that can’t get out of its own way, or maybe it just chooses not to do so.
Your sound is not typical of the more recent Tooth and Nail releases. How did you guys come about signing with Tooth and Nail? Especially being on different coasts…
BC: We put a 7” split out with a great band from Atlanta called O’brother , the Tooth people got their hands on a copy and then contacted us. It has been a great working relationship since.
As you begin to gain notice is music something that you walked into with a 5 year plan or a larger goal? If so what is it for you?
BC: Its something that all of us have always done. We’ve all played music and been in bands since we were in middle school. There is/was no 5 year plan, just a passion to be creative.
Right on. What’s influencing you right now?
BC: On a personal level, getting to spend this summer at home on beautiful Long Island, I have gained a new appreciation for it; it’s magical in the summer. Musically, I think this year has produced some fantastic records. Fleet Foxes, TV On The Radio, Bon Iver and David Bazzan just to list a few.
How is the scene in Long Island these days? Growing up with local bands such as Brand New and Taking Back Sunday, how much does that scene and style play into your art and how you view music?
BC: Divided is the most accurate term I can use to describe the LI scene. There isn’t much sense of community like there was when I first started going to shows. There are a handful of talented bands, but they all run in different circles.
What is your tour schedule looking like in the near future? I saw you have some dates with Brand New in September? What about touring do you enjoy the most?
BC: Yes, we have a run with Brand New on the west coast which is going to lead us directly into some dates with Seahaven. It’s our first time as a band on the west coast so we are excited to get out there and play.
What I enjoy most about touring is just seeing what each town has to offer. Weather it be a nature preserve by the water or the town sandwich shop. We aren’t really a “Mall of America” type band. Sure everybody has to do it once, but you are more likely to find us in a small local coffee shop opposed to the mall.
Final thoughts to leave readers with?
BC: Our record Monoculture comes out August 9th on Tooth and Nail Records, go pick it up at your local record store.
Awesome! Thanks again Bradley!
